Sculpture Theft!

Earlier this year, a few pieces of mine were accepted to the Chesterfield City Hall's art show! Many paintings and sculptures of mine were on display and it was a great experience. However, the highlight was definitely one of my favorite sculptures, Jerome, being stolen. This is second time being mistreated at a show, he's just so popular and I love it. Below is a video the police showed me.

Thankfully, they also got him back for me. He's back home with me now and I've started making molds of my favorite pieces so this never happens again. From now on, excluding very special circumstances, I don't think I'm ever sending my original clay pieces out anymore.

Face on Glass

I recently made a sculpture of a man with his face pressed against a pane of glass. I mainly wanted to see if I could make the illusion of smushed skin. I think I did alright but there are some things that I don't like about it. I feel like the cheek doesn't have enough fat, it seems really narrow and the proportions are really wacky. While I'm okay with the proportions being a little loose, I feel like I should do something similar later on to try and do more with the smushiness. Below this are three process photos. On left to right is: The initial clay sculpture; The sculpture sanded and gessoed in its box; The final painted version in its box.

This is a more polished version of the final product with no glare from the glass or extra environment around it.

I Need You Sculpture

This is a clay sculpture of a man with a large hole drilled into his head. He is covered with other wounds that are all over his body which is matte while the injuries are glossy. Multiple images showing his process are below.

This was the first pass of clay for this sculpture. The head was too heavy so it is leaning on some paint brushes and he didn't have any eyes yet.

Eyes were added and the shapes of the face were more defined. Like the ears, nose and wrinkles.

This was the first paint job I did for him. I wanted him to look dead so it's very purple but I thought it was too saturated so it was toned down with gray.

Accepted at Soulard Art Gallery

Everything Blue - a juried art exhibit

My moon painting was accepted into the Soulard Art Gallery! It will be displayed at 2028 South 12th Street for a month starting September 15th at 7 PM. Below is the painting that got accepted. It's a very small 4" x 4" acrylic painting that was sold in the first 30 mins of the gallery being open! This is the first painting I've sold at a gallery and I can't wait to join more shows.

Beam of Light

This is an acrylic painting of a beam of light rising from the ground, illuminating a small apartment complex. Below is a picture of both this painting together with the pour painting that was made with the leftover background paint.

Flower Face

This is a multimedia piece consisting of: fabric, clay, paper, and acrylic paint. The flowers sprouting from her head were made from paper then dipped inside the leftover paint from making the background. The face was sculpted from clay and the scarf is cloth that was painted and stuffed with plastic bags so that it would hold its shape.
The painting symbolizes the discomfort that comes from growth and change.
